Homeless Awareness Weekend: November 10-12, 2017

Hello! My name is Chris Wall, a pastor at the Evangelical Covenant Church here in Attleboro and I’m helping to plan and lead our area’s annual Homeless Awareness Weekend. We want to invite you and your congregation to join us!

HAW is now in its 11th year raising awareness of the issues surrounding homeless in the area and raising funds to end it. All of the money we raise for the weekend goes to ministries and organizations working to house homeless individuals and address the underlying causes of homelessness.

To do that, local high school students from schools and youth groups spend two nights in the middle of November, the 10th to the 12th, sleeping in cardboard boxes on a field. By experiencing this small slice of homelessness, we’re trying to sensitize ourselves to the needs of people we may walk past every day but not think twice about. After that first chilly night on the field, we spend Saturday out in our towns raising awareness and funds by standing at street corners, asking for donations, and handing out information cards, or serving in soup kitchens and homeless shelters.

This is a unique and challenging experience for both our students and our leaders. It’s an opportunity to address a very real need in our communities and to serve those who need it the most. Would you consider joining us?

We will have an informational meeting at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 N Main St, Attleboro, MA, on Thursday, September 28th, at 6:30pm. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact me at chris@attleborocovenant.org.

We look forward to seeing you there!
