Free Grab & Go lunches are available in Attleboro and Norton. As food insecurity rises sharply, many families are looking for additional resources to access food. The Summer Food Service Program, known as Summer Eats in Massachusetts, helps to provide FREE meals to kids and teens 18 and under when school is out of session.
Due to COVID-19, summer meals in 2021 will continue to be provided in a Grab & Go style. Children do not have to be present to pick up meals. Families are able to walk up or drive up to four local sites, affiliated with Attleboro Area Interfaith Collaborative. They are all “open” meal sites, with no registration or identification required. FREE bagged lunches will be served through Friday, August 27.
There are four Kids Summer Café meal sites, operated under the program Food n’ Friends:
• Attleboro High School, Blue Pride Way, Attleboro, M-F at 11:30am
• Briggs Playground, East Street, Attleboro, M-F at 11:30am
• Nickerson Field, Snell Street, Attleboro, M-F at 11:30am
• Norton Glen Playground, Norton Glen Terrace, Norton, M-F at 11:30am
“To ensure that children and families do not face a hunger gap, we begin serving FREE bagged lunches as soon as the school break begins,” says Lisa Piscatelli, executive director of Attleboro Area Interfaith Collaborative. “During this challenging time, we have seen the community come together and help families utilize meal programs and resources. Programs such as the Kids Summer Café [Summer Eats] are critical for families during the summer season.”
As the Commonwealth shares COVID-19 requirements, Attleboro Area Interfaith Collaborative quickly adapts programming to ensure children and families can continue accessing needed resources in the context of a global pandemic. There is no one-size-fits-all meals model during a public health crisis.
Additional meal sites can be found on Project Bread’s statewide meal map or by calling the FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333. By providing free, nutritious meals throughout the summer, Summer Eats ensures that every child has access to the food they need to succeed.Kids-Summer-Cafe-2021
