The Kids Summer Cafe is a Food n’ Friends program that combats childhood hunger by providing children a healthy lunch when school is not in session. Many children who receive free or reduced lunches during the school year face a high risk of hunger when school is out for the summer.
Free bagged lunches are distributed weekly at four local playgrounds to school-aged children. This year we are initiating the a third day for bagged lunches. The Kids Summer Café is both privately funded and a part of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) which is a federally funded program administered by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
Here in Attleboro, the SFSP is sponsored by the Attleboro Area Council of Churches, Food n’ Friends program, and we invite kids eighteen and under to drop by any of the following outdoor, inner-city sites for a FREE delicious and nutritionally balanced meal from 12 noon – 1:00 PM, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from July 5th to August 18th.
The Kids Summer Cafes served over 2,900 lunches this summer, a thousand more lunches than 2012.
