For the Kids “Kids are only kids once,” says Mark, single father of three, who brings his kids and young granddaughter to dine at the Family Cafés every other week.To do his share, he volunteers at the Kids Summer Cafés offered throughout school summer vacation for youngsters at city parks and playgrounds.“We really love it,” says Mark who says the periodic meals offer good food and an opportunity for diversion. “We enjoy seeing other families and it’s good for the kids to be able to get away from the house for a while.”It also helps stretch the family food budget.In the summer, kids under 18 are offered lunches three days a week at five locations.Mark says it’s fun to help serve meals and see local children enjoying themselves.“It’s like a picnic,” he said. “They’ll go and sit on blankets and play with toys and games.”
